Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty with muscle repair, refined contour, and discreet scar planning.
What this procedure is
A tummy tuck removes excess skin, repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis), and refines the abdominal contour. It is a transformative procedure with a longer recovery than liposuction alone — and one of the most consistently rewarding when performed on the right candidate.
Abdominoplasty is the only contouring procedure that addresses excess skin and muscle separation in addition to fat. Where the indications are present, it produces a more durable change than liposuction alone — at the cost of a longer recovery and a planned scar.
Limited adjunctive liposuction is commonly part of the plan to refine the flank and waist transition where the abdominoplasty itself does not reach.
How Dr. Gelb plans the procedure
- —Muscle repair to restore abdominal wall integrity.
- —Skin tightening planned with discreet scar placement.
- —VASER liposuction adjuncts for refined contour where indicated.
Scar position is planned low across the abdomen, designed to sit comfortably below most underwear and swimwear lines. Muscle repair (rectus diastasis) is part of the operation when present.
The right plan is determined in consultation, based on your anatomy, history, and goals — not from a template.
Tools matched to anatomy
Technology is selected when it improves the result — never by default. Tools serve the plan.
A safety-first standard of care
- —DVT prophylaxis and structured early ambulation.
- —Conservative combinations — only when the patient and plan support it.
Evidence-based recovery
Most patients are walking within a day, return to desk work in two to three weeks, and to full activity over six to eight weeks. Recovery timelines and results vary. The plan, expectations, and timeline outlined here are general — your specific course is determined at consultation.
- Days 1 – 3
- Walking encouraged within hours; flexed posture for the first days.
- Weeks 1 – 3
- Drains, if used, are managed and removed on schedule. Most return to desk work in 2 – 3 weeks.
- Weeks 4 – 8
- Gradual return to full activity; core work resumes under guidance.
- Months 3 – 12
- Scar matures and fades; final contour stabilizes.
